Term round up

I have left this a little late, but have been enjoying taking some time off from work over christmas. I realised i had not posted about the completion of my Jitter patch. My Max/MSP Jitter app ended up working really well. We had to present to the rest of the class.

I managed to get my voice splitting the live webcam feed into a number of vertices which would spread and shatter the louder your voice went. The pitch of the users voice controls the distortion of the texture on each vertice, allowing vocal control over two variables.

To make this application more immersive i also added an element of sound. Using a pair of headphones as the output, i added a backing track. When the user makes a noise, not only but does the webcam feed distort, but it also reverses the music. The louder the noise made, the faster in reverse the track goes. When sound is stopped the song continues as normal, and the video feed snaps back to a flat image.

The aim of this was to unsettle the user more. If i’d had a bit more time i would have loved to play around with other variables, such as the shape of the vertices (an option in the patcher from jitter recipes). Unfortunately im not sure how to use what i have learnt with my final sound project as i am unsure of exactly what im aiming for…
